To ensure that we have a strong start to the 2026-27 school year, it is important that students and family members are up-to-date with important policies and procedures at Valor College Prep. We ask that you read each section below and that a parent or guardian signs his/her name on the line provided in order to indicate agreement with the policy or statement provided.

26-27 Student Class Schedules

Students have previously had their “course placements” shared with them. Placements show which courses a student will take, but in no particular order. VCP has recently finalized “student schedules” which we are excited to share with families and scholars! Students’ finalized class schedules will be shared according to the following timeline:

• Families will receive hard copies of student schedules on Back to School Night.
• Scholars will receive a digital copy of their schedules on August 7, 2026.
• Scholars will receive another hard copy of schedules on their first day of school..

Requesting to ADD an AP Course
The following courses are accepting new students beginning on Tuesday, August 25th:AP LiteratureAP StatisticsAP US HistoryAP Calculus ABAP PreCalculusAP 2D ArtAP DrawingAP WorldAP Environmental ScienceIf you wish to apply for any of the above courses, important details include:You must submit this AP Add Request form. The form will open to students on Monday, August 10th at 8am and close on Friday, August 14th at 3pm. Students whose requests are approved will be notified by Monday, August 24th and begin in their new classes on Tuesday, August 25th. Your grade in your current class will follow you into your AP course (ie: if you are in English IV and have a 91% on September 2nd, you will start in AP Lit on September 3rd with a 91%). You will be responsible for completion of the course’s AP Summer work (due by the end of Quarter 1). You will be responsible for up to 10 hours of additional work (as assigned by the teacher) to make up for the first 4 weeks of class that you will have missed. This work will also be due no later than the end of Q1.
Requesting to DROP an AP Course
There is a small window of possibility for students to request to be dropped from an AP course if it proves to be too much during the first month of school. See below for details:Students will need to submit this AP Drop Request after it opens on Monday, August 17th and no later than Friday, August 21st. Whether or not a drop request is granted will depend on how thoroughly the drop request form is completed as well as whether or not there are available seats in the non-AP version of the course. For drop requests that are granted, students will begin in their new schedules on Tuesday, August 25th. Grades will follow students as they transition from the AP to non-AP version of a course (ie: if a student exits AP Bio with a 68% overall score, they will begin in Honors Bio with a 68% on all existing assignments for that course). The only exception to this is for dropping an online APAA course being taken during a student’s I Block. If this request is granted, there will be no replacement course (students will be transitioned to a traditional study hall).

Educational Program

By sending your child to Valor College Prep, you are agreeing to our curriculum with no changes or exemptions. We believe our curriculum represents our commitments and our mission to empower our diverse community to live inspired, purposeful lives. We have created a curriculum that meets state standards and prepares students for work at the college-level, including appropriately challenging texts, assignments, tests, and homework. 

You can preview the curriculum by reviewing course syllabi, which are provided during orientation and during the first week of school. You can also use VCP’s Homework Agenda to preview content for the current week. We are committed to communicating through syllabi and the Homework Agenda, but we can’t guarantee a preview of all lessons and assignments. If you have questions about the curriculum and how our staff support students with content, please refer to our community handbook (pages 18-19, 21-22) or reach out to your child’s grade-level Assistant Principal of Academics.

Optional PSAT/NMSQT Exam for 10-11th Grade Students

The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) / NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a standardized exam that will be administered at VCP on Friday, October 8th at 9am (this date is otherwise a non-attendance day for students and is Report Card Conference Day). The test is completely OPTIONAL to students in 10th and 11th grade. Here is who might consider taking the exam:

• Students who have a history of scoring in the top 1-2% of test takers on standardized exams. The National Merit Scholarship is awarded based upon students’ performance on the PSAT/NMSQT Exam in 11th grade. Only a fraction of a percent of the nation’s top performing students receive the scholarship due to their performance on this exam. **Please note that taking the PSAT/NMSQT as a 10th grader would be considered a “practice round” for the upcoming year. Scholarships are only awarded to 11th grade test takers.

• Students who intend to take the SAT in addition to the ACT for college admissions. Please note that all Valor College Prep students will be required to take the ACT test (many will take it multiple times), and the vast majority of schools that our students apply to do not require more than the ACT for admissions. Please consult the webpage of any school that you are thinking of applying to in order to see whether or not the SAT is a requirement. If it is, the PSAT may be a good opportunity for practice.

​If neither of the above criteria are met, we do not recommend taking the PSAT. Students will have no shortage of standardized exam test taking opportunities at Valor College Prep, and the PSAT is not a factor in college admissions decisions.

For those who are interested, the fee for the PSAT is $18. This can be paid using myschoolbucks.com (preferred) or in our front office with cash/check/card. If you wish for your student to participate in the 2026 PSAT Exam Administration at VCP on October 23rd at 9am, please complete THIS FORM by August 19th.

​I understand that the PSAT is an optional test and not recommended for most. If I wish for my student to participate, I have filled out the form above.N/A, My scholar is not in 10th or 11th grade. This does not apply to me.​

Accommodations Consent Form

NOTICE: The following information is reserved for students who receive accommodations for testing per an individualized plan such as an IEP, 504, or ILP for English Language Learners. Accommodations include supports such as extended time, small group testing, read aloud, breaks, etc. In order to apply for student accommodations based on their documented plan, we must first receive consent from the student’s guardian to release the student’s IEP/504/ILP information to the testing agency for review. If your student does not have an IEP, 504, or ILP plan (this is the case for the majority of VCP students) then you will simply choose the option “N/A – My student does not have an individualized plan that includes testing accommodations” on the following two drop-down items on this page.

ACT:

Do you give consent for VCP to release information to ACT related to your child’s IEP/504/ILP for accommodations purposes? Please note that if you do not give consent, this means your child cannot receive accommodations on the ACT.

​I authorize the release of my student’s individualized learning/testing support documentation, or any other information that may be requested by ACT from school officials, physicians, or others having such information, that would pertain to the review of a student’s candidacy for receiving testing accommodations on the ACT. I understand that any documentation or information provided to ACT will remain with the records related to the request and will not become part of the examinee’s permanent score record. TI-84 Calculator Plan

Every VCP student is required to have a calculator at school with them daily. This calculator will be required all 4 years of high school. Students may use a personal calculator such as a TI-84 or use the Desmos online calculator on their chromebook. The Desmos calculator is the one students have access to on all TN EOCs, the ACT and AP tests.

Graduation Requirements

Failure to complete all requirements will result in your official diploma and transcript will be withheld and non-participation in the graduation ceremony.

Signature Experiences

At Valor College Prep, Signature Experiences are grade-level milestone trips and activities that take scholars beyond the classroom and into real-world settings. These experiences are designed to support growth, exploration, and connection as students progress through high school.

Through college visits, retreats, and senior celebrations, scholars build independence, confidence, and a clearer sense of direction while strengthening relationships with peers and mentors and connecting their learning to future goals.

The 9th Grade Signature Experience (SE) is a two-day retreat designed specifically for our ninth-grade students. As an annual tradition at Valor College Prep, this Signature Experience serves as a meaningful kickoff to students’ four-year journey at VCP. The retreat provides an opportunity for students to build relationships within their new co-ed mentor groups while participating in engaging indoor and outdoor activities at the retreat venue.

The 10th Grade Signature Experience (SE) will consist of a one-day visit to a local college or university in the Nashville area. With the inclusion of both two-year and four-year institutions, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of postsecondary pathways and better understand their educational options. During the visit, students will participate in a guided campus tour, enjoy a meal on campus, and have the opportunity to visit the campus bookstore.

The 11th Grade Signature Experience (SE) will consist of a two-day experience that combines college exploration with student enrichment. On the first day, students will participate in visits to in-state colleges and universities beyond the immediate Nashville area, providing broader exposure to a variety of postsecondary institutions across Tennessee. During these visits, we hope to host a Valor College Prep alumni panel featuring current college students and explore opportunities for students to observe lectures, labs, or other academic experiences.

On the second day, students will participate in an opportunity for fun and celebration at Main Event in Murfreesboro, TN.

12th Grade: The Senior Signature Experience (SE) is a celebratory multi-day trip designed to honor seniors and create lasting memories as they prepare for graduation.

Seniors will attend Six Flags Over Georgia Grad Night, featuring unlimited rides, DJ dance parties, special entertainment, and a senior-only celebration atmosphere, with dinner provided during the overnight park experience. The trip also includes an overnight hotel stay with breakfast the following morning. Seniors will visit the Museum of Illusions for an interactive experience with exhibits and photo opportunities. On the return trip to Nashville, the group will stop at Buc-ee’s in North Georgia for lunch, snacks, and souvenirs before concluding the experience.

*Permission slip Google Forms for each Signature Experience will be distributed via email to students and families at least one month before the scheduled experience. Submission of the completed form is required for students to participate in the experience.

Valor Family Group at Valor

At Valor, we believe that we enroll families, not just scholars. Valor’s Family Engagement team (FET) is a team of both parents, known as the Valor Family Group (VFG) and staff that seek to partner deeply with families and to create a school where their voices are central to shaping our community and practices. The purpose of the VFG is to create opportunities to ENGAGE, CONNECT, and INFORM families.

ALL are invited and welcome to be involved with the VFG at a level of commitment that works for you. Within the committees below, guardians are able to support one, some, or all events sponsored by each committee.

The VFG Core team is composed of:

The VFG has three committees:

• After school Arts & Enrichment (Music, theater, fine arts, robotics, STEM) supported by FACE
• Hospitality (Teacher luncheons, Teacher Appreciation Week, etc.)

The VFG exists to CONNECT, ENGAGE, INFORM, and ADVOCATE for our diverse families in order to elevate family voices and grow a more equitable, inclusive, supportive, inspiring and purposeful community.

• CONNECT: Families connect with other families and with staff.
• ENGAGE: Families invest personal resources in enriching the community through volunteering, organizing and participating in events, supporting staff, and providing feedback.
• INFORM: Families have the pertinent information they need to make educated decisions that best support their scholars in living inspired purposeful lives.
• ADVOCATE: Families advocate for the inclusion and equity of all, particularly historically marginalized groups, both inside the Valor community and in the community at large.

VFG believes that family engagement is an ongoing 2-way process that strengthens active participation, communication and collaboration between families and schools. We believe that scholars, teachers, administrators, guardians, and community working together will create meaningful partnerships that lead to increase in scholar achievement and wellbeing.

Wildcat Athletic Programs

Varsity and Sub-Varsity Athletics—9th-12th Grade

Varsity Athletics are designed for high school students who have demonstrated the perseverance, commitment, and character necessary to meet the academic and athletic expectations of competitive interscholastic sports. Teams regularly participate in both home and off-campus competitions.

While all interested students are encouraged to participate, most varsity programs follow a tryout and team selection process. Student-athletes are selected and placed on teams based on a combination of attitude, effort, skill, experience, coachability, and readiness for competition. Team selection may also be limited by safe roster capacities and the number of available roster spots necessary to provide a safe, productive, and meaningful experience for all participants.

Valor athletic teams compete in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) and adhere to all association rules and guidelines. Sports are offered during the fall, winter, and spring seasons and may vary based on student interest and participation numbers. Sports designated as “Co-Op” programs are offered in partnership with another school.

In addition to athletic participation, in-season Varsity student-athletes are expected to participate in Strength and Conditioning time, as designated by their coach. Voluntary out-of-season opportunities for training are also available under the restrictions and guidelines of the TSSAA.

Our Athletic department requires all interested in participating in sports to create a final forms account and submit all required paperwork via the final forms account. Our athletic department is completely paperless and does not take hard copies of any paperwork!

Valor believes after-school arts, clubs, and enrichment programs help scholars extend their experience at Valor and dive into areas of interest with their peers. Therefore, we have created the Fine Arts, Clubs, and Enrichment team to help advocate for, support, and identify such opportunities for students. With limited resources for after-school programming, we rely on outside partnerships and parents to help create and run these FACE opportunities for our scholars. In order to provide high quality fine arts, clubs, and enrichment programs families may have to pay a fee (determined by the program leader or governing organization) to participate in these after-school activities. Most programming fees vary to ensure that all after-school programs are inclusive, equitable and self-sustaining.

• Attach Student to Your Account: Once logged in, attach your student(s) to your account. This allows you to manage their afterschool program registrations.
• Register for Afterschool Programs: Explore the available afterschool programs and register your student(s) for the ones they’re interested in. Remember, each program may have its own requirements set by the leader, but inclusivity is encouraged.
• Stay Informed:The FACE Team will post important information in the FACE Community News and the FACE website. At the same time, the Principal Update throughout the school year will provide additional key updates or changes.

Cell Phone Policy

Students in each grade level have the opportunity to earn cell phone usage while in the dining hall during lunch time. Each grade level will earn use of this privilege at varying points throughout the first quarter.  Students are permitted to use cell phones, air pods, headphones in the morning before the first bell rings at 7:28 am. 

Cell Phone Collection Policy:

• Students are expected to place their personal cell phone in a numbered pocket at the start of class.
• Phones will remain in the pocket for the duration of class and may be retrieved at the end of the period.
• The phone collection area is located within the classroom, but it is not individually locked or secured.
• Staff will monitor the process as reasonably possible, but phones are stored at the student’s own risk.

Liability Notice:

• The school is not liable for lost, stolen, or damaged devices during the school day, including while phones are stored in the classroom collection system.
• Students who tamper with or remove another student’s phone will face disciplinary consequences and may be financially responsible for any resulting damage or loss.

Outside of these times, cell phone/air pod use are not permitted at VCP and should be stored in backpacks or lockers. Phones that are being actively used or make any disrupting noise will be confiscated and returned to a student or caregiver in line with our policy.

We’re very proud of our school community and welcome all opportunities to tell our story and showcase the hard work of scholars and staff to outside stakeholders. At times, Valor Collegiate Academies (VCA) may wish to include your child’s likeness, name, statement, or work product in these materials or media. We also value and respect each individual’s right to privacy. Please indicate below whether or not you authorize your preference below.

Periodically, Valor gets information requests from research groups, higher education institutions, etc for various elements of our students’ “directory information” which may include such items as: place of birth, address, sports team membership, date of birth, weight and height of athletes, awards received, etc. Please indicate whether or not you are comfortable with your student’s directory information being shared with trusted external partners:

Completing this form is an essential avenue for qualifying families to have breakfast/lunch costs covered for their students. Please open this link in a new tab and fill it out immediately so that you do not forget! By qualifying for free or reduced price lunch your family may also become eligible for cost-savings outside of food service (ie: reductions to AP and/or ACT exam costs). It is imperative that you complete the form EVEN IF you do not believe that your student will be purchasing breakfast or lunch from our cafeteria and EVEN IF you do not believe that you will qualify. Valor cares deeply about ensuring that we are adhering to our diverse by design model, and FRL status is a valuable data point. Additionally, there are state and federal funding opportunities that our schools depend on that may be in jeopardy if we do not have this form completed for our entire community.

1. Food deliveries are only permitted when brought directly by a parent or guardian.
2. Food delivered by commercial food delivery services (e.g., Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, etc.) will not be accepted.
3. Any food items delivered to the school by unauthorized sources will be held securely in the school office until the end of the school day for parent or guardian pickup.
4. Students will not be permitted to leave class to retrieve food deliveries.

Locker Policy

​

Locker Use Students are permitted to visit their lockers during each 5-minute passing period between classes. However, it is unlikely that students will need to visit their lockers between each class. Therefore, students should think strategically about the passing periods that will best lend themselves to a locker visit so that they do not risk being marked tardy to class.

Locker Organizers & Decor Students may bring organization tools & magnets for the interior of their lockers.​Students may not decorate the interior of their lockers with stickers or any other type of decor that uses adhesive of any kind.​Students also may not decorate the exterior of their lockers.

Locker SearchesValor College Prep’s highest priority is student safety. For that reason, the school reserves the right to search student lockers at any time and for any reason. School officials may conduct periodic inspections without notice, without student consent, and without a search warrant.

Statement of Liability Students shall not trade or share lockers with one another for any reason. If found in violation of this policy, appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with the Off-Compass Matrix. ​The school is not responsible for any valuables left inside the lockers. This includes cell phones, iPods, mp3 players, jewelry, cash, etc. Valor College Prep will not review camera footage to investigate lost or stolen items.

Student Data & Privacy

At Valor, we are committed to providing students with access to safe, effective digital tools that support learning and meet all applicable legal and privacy standards. This agreement outlines how technology will be used during the school year and what families can expect.

In accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-1-221 and the Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA):

Our school implements internet filtering and monitoring tools (GoGuardian).

Student data is used only for educational purposes and is protected by district policies.

We prohibit access to inappropriate content and take misuse seriously.

Students will use a variety of technology tools and resources provided by the school, including but not limited to:

• School-managed Google Workspace for Education accounts
• School-issued Chromebooks
• Educational software and apps

These tools are an essential part of our instructional program.

GoGuardian

To help keep your child safer and more focused online, Valor has adopted online services provided by GoGuardian. Over 14,000 other schools use GoGuardian to protect 25 million students across the world. 

How are we using GoGuardian?

We have chosen GoGuardian services to: 

• Help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material
• Help students stay more focused when learning online
• Help assess students’ progress towards class assignments

When and how does GoGuardian operate?

GoGuardian’s web-based services operate when a student is signed in to their school managed account while using a supported device (i.e., when a student is logged into their school email address).

How does GoGuardian help protect my child’s privacy?

 To help your child remain focused and safe online, GoGuardian collects certain personally identifiable information about your child. GoGuardian has consulted with privacy experts, participates in privacy organizations, is a proud signatory of the 2020 Student Privacy Pledge, and has been awarded certifications by iKeepSafe for complying with both Family Education Rights and Privacy Act and California student privacy laws (which have served as a model for many other states’ student privacy laws). Parent/Guardian Agreement

• I acknowledge that the Chromebook is to be used for Valor coursework and if my child violates any of the Valor Chromebook policies that he/she may be subject to consequences and loss of technology privileges.
• I assume financial responsibility for any damage, vandalism, loss, or theft of the Chromebook and power adapter. I understand that the replacement cost of the Chromebook is $300 and power adapter is $20.  
• I understand that if my scholar purposefully or accidentally damages his/her Chromebook or another scholar’s Chromebook that I will be asked to pay a $25 damage fee. If damage occurs to the charger, I will be asked to pay $10.
• I agree to monitor and supervise my scholar’s use of the device at home 
• I will make all necessary arrangements to ensure wireless internet access is available at home. I will let the school know if that creates a hardship for my family. 
• I understand that Chromebooks are owned by Valor and that all content and activity is subject to monitoring by Valor staff. I understand that Valor may request that I return the device at any time.
• If my scholar fails to return the Chromebook or power adapter to Valor by the end of the school year, upon transfer/withdrawal, or other termination of enrollment, I will pay the replacement cost of the Chromebook and power adapter. Failure to do so may result in criminal and/or civil court prosecution. 

Scholar Agreement

• The chromebook is to be used specifically for Valor coursework and violation of any of the Valor Chromebook policies may be subject to additional consequences and loss of technology privileges.
• The chromebook is not to be lent to any family members or friends. 
• The scholar is responsible for treating and transporting my Chromebook with care.
• The scholar will secure his/her account by keeping his/her password secret and logging off of the device when not in use.
• The scholar will notify Valor staff as soon as possible if the device is damaged, lost, or stolen.
• The scholar will not place any stickers or other markings on my device.
• The scholar will not change the desktop background image from the school designated background.  
• The scholar family is financially responsible for any damage, vandalism, loss, or theft of the Chromebook.
• The use of the Chromebook is a privilege, not a right, and that he/she may lose that privilege for failing to meet these expectations or demonstrate responsibility.
• Failure to complete tech checkout at the end of his/her/their senior year will mean their official diploma and transcript will be withheld.
• If my scholar fails to return the Chromebook or power adapter to Valor by the end of their senior year, their official diploma and transcript will be withheld.​

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Notice

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records and provides certain rights to parents and eligible students (students who are 18 years of age or older or attending a postsecondary institution).

Under FERPA, parents and eligible students have the right to:

• Inspect and review the student’s education records within 45 days of the school receiving a written request.
• Request amendment of education records they believe are inaccurate, misleading, or in violation of the student’s privacy rights.
• Provide written consent before the school discloses personally identifiable information (PII) from education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
• File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the school to comply with FERPA requirements.​

The school may disclose education records without prior written consent under certain conditions permitted by FERPA, including but not limited to:

• To school officials with legitimate educational interests
• To contractors, consultants, or service providers performing institutional services under the school’s direct control
• To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena
• In connection with a health or safety emergency
• As directory information, if families have not opted out

Directory Information

In compliance with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Valor is permitted to disclose directory information to third parties. Please indicate your preference if you wish to opt out of the sharing of your student’s directory information. Directory information includes the following:

• Student’s name
• Address
• Parent/guardian name
• Parent/guardian phone number
• Parent/guardian email
• Photograph
• Date and place of birth
• Major field of study
• Dates of attendance
• Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
• Weight and height of members of athletic teams
• Degrees, honors and awards received
• The most recent educational agency or institution attended

Student Parking

Eligibility

• Students must have a valid driver’s license.
• Students must have proof of insurance.
• Student and guardian(s) must attend Orientation to view the Attendance Policy presentation and sign the Student Parking and Attendance Agreement.

Valor reserves the right to revoke a student’s parking pass if he/she is not in good standing with attendance, found with illegal substances on the lot, or if he/she engages in reckless driving behavior that could result in harm to self or others.

Payment

• Student parking spots are $75 a year.
• Payments are made at the time of the application. Link provided below.

Process

• 1 Year Term: Student parking passes will be active for the remainder of the school year that they are issued (ie: whether a student is issued a pass in August or February, both will expire at the end of May of that school year). Parking passes are re-designed each year so that previous year passes are easily identified as no longer being active. If your student has a parking tag from a previous school year, he/she may throw it out.
• Payment: Passes are $60 for the year. Payments are made at the time of the application through My School Bucks.
• Notification: Your student will be notified via email that he/she has been awarded a parking spot.
• Orientation: In the past years, we have noticed an increased number of student drivers with an excessive number of unexcused tardies to school or absences. Student and guardian are required to attend orientation (dates above) to view the Attendance Policy presentation and sign the Student Parking and Attendance Agreement.

Attendance:

• Students with a parking pass are committed to attending school on a regular basis. This included arriving on time and staying until the time of dismissal.
• Classes start at 7:30 am. Arrival is from 7:10-7:28 am.
• Dismissal is at 3 pm on Monday and 2:30 on Tuesday-Friday.
• Late arrivals and early dismissals should be limited to doctor’s appointments and be accompanied by a Dr.’s note.
• Students with 4 or more unexcused absences or 8 or more unexcused tardies to school will lose their parking privileges according to the attendance intervention policy.

3. Fill in your own first and last name, email address, select a password and answer a few security questions.

5. Select Valor College Prep as your school and then fill in your student’s name. You will have to validate your student with either his/her birthday or ID#. If you try using birthday and it doesn’t work, please reach out to our Director of Operations, Grace Spriggs, at gspriggs@valorcollegiate.org and ask for the precise spelling of your student’s name in our records and his/her ID#.

6. When you sign up, you’ll receive an email to “validate email” – click on that and from that webpage click “Continue” and then “Click Here for VCP Items”.

Community Handbook

Valor Collegiate Academies have made the Community Handbook available online (on Valor Family News. A printed copy can also be requested at any school’s front office. The handbook is available in English, Spanish, and Kurdish. Interpretation of the Handbook will be available in other languages upon request. The handbook contains important policies that apply to all three Valor schools.
