A huge thank you to everyone who came out for our Family Breakfast this past week! It was wonderful to catch up, share a meal, and connect with our amazing community. We truly appreciate you taking the time to start the day with us. Your partnership and support mean the world to our team.
If your student mentions that their daily schedule changed recently, please do not be alarmed. We have been making a few routine adjustments behind the scenes to help balance our class sizes and ensure every student gets the best possible support.

Traffic Flow and Dismissal
The safety of our students, staff, and families is our highest priority. To keep our campus safe and efficient during pick-up, and also be good partners with our middle schools, we ask that everyone live out our shared commitment to safety by obeying all traffic rules and following the guidance of our dismissal team.
Please keep the following key guidelines in mind:
- Follow Staff Directives: Our staff members are outside during dismissal specifically to keep your children safe. Please listen to and follow their instructions at all times.
- Middle School Dismissal Area: If you find yourself in the Middle School dismissal area, please follow their specific traffic directives carefully.
- Keep Traffic Moving (“The Circle Rule”):
- No Lane Blocking: Vehicles are not permitted to sit idling or stopped in either the inner or outer lanes, as this blocks the flow of traffic and creates safety hazards.
- If Asked to Circle, Please Circle: If a staff member asks you to circle around, you must do so immediately. Please continue to circle until your student is at the pickup spot and ready to board.
Again, if you are asked to circle around the building, please do so. Our dismissal team knows that it is an inconvenience, and we will do our best to avoid that as much as possible. However, if it’s necessary, please work with our team and follow those directions. Please do not pull off to the side in front of VCP’s gym. Please also be kind to our dismissal team; the team should treat families with courtesy and respect, and the team also deserves the same thing from families.
Dismissal runs smoothly and safely when we all work together. Thank you for your patience, courtesy, and dedication to keeping our school community safe!

Opportunity to join the 26-27 AI Community Council!
Are you curious — or concerned — about how AI is shaping life for you and your student? Do you want to be part of a small multigenerational team working to learn and share more about the opportunities and risks of integrating AI into Valor? We’re looking for 4 family members to join the council alongside students and staff. Application is here (deadline Aug 17). You don’t need to be a ‘tech-expert’ to apply and we welcome family members who are skeptical about AI to sign up.
Time commitment: monthly Monday (4:00pm-5:15pm) meetings at VCP. 30 minutes of work between meetings. More details included in the application (tentative meeting dates, expectations, etc). Questions? Reach out to Daren Dickson at ddickson@valorcollegiate.org.

Invitation to Register: Immersive Futures Event at Valor
What will it mean to be human in a world shaped by AI?
Join us for a one-of-a-kind immersive experience designed to help students, families and Valor staff explore that question together. Through live actors and interactive scenarios, you’ll step into possible futures and experience firsthand both the incredible possibilities and the real risks of a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
This special event, created in partnership with the Rithm Project, is coming to Valor for the first time ever at a school. You’ll leave with new questions, new perspectives, and an opportunity to think together about how we can use AI without losing what matters most: our humanity and our connections to one another.
We invite you to join us in experiencing the future and helping shape what comes next for our Valor community.
There are 5 opportunities to participate in this special event over the course of three days (Oct 7 – 9, 2026). Please register using this form by selecting the time you’d like to attend. Spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. We highly encourage student and caregivers to register and attend the event together. CELEBRATIONS & COMMUNITY CONNECTION
As our middle school community continues to learn and grow together during Intersectionality Awareness Month, we remain grounded in our diverse by design commitment. We love highlighting local opportunities that uplift, connect, and empower our scholars and families both inside and outside the classroom.
Here are a few great ways to engage across the Nashville area this month:
- National Black Business Month: August is a fantastic time to celebrate local Black entrepreneurs! Check out [Black Owned Nashville] to support and uplift diverse businesses across our city
- Conexión Américas (Grades 9–12): Centered on the theme “El Cambio Empieza Conmigo | The Change Begins With Me,” high school students can create an essay or multimedia piece exploring how individual actions strengthen our community. Submissions are due August 31st. Details included here!
- Hispanic Family Foundation Job & Legal Fair: Hosted in a welcoming environment at Plaza Mariachi, this community event connects attendees with employment opportunities, legal guidance, and valuable local organizations serving Nashville.

9TH GRADE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dear 9th Grade Families,
I hope this message finds you well. This is a reminder that the 9th Great Retreat will be taking place on September 10 & 11, 2026 (not overnight). Students will spend Day 1 at Camp Widjiwagan and Day 2 at The Adventure Park @ Nashville along with some teambuilding and fun activities on campus.
Attendance is required for the retreat. If your scholar does not attend without a doctor’s note, it will be marked as an unexcused absence.
To ensure all students are able to attend and participate, both of these forms must be completed by Friday, August 28.
- Permission Form – This form gives your scholar permission to attend the retreat and to be transported by bus.
- The Adventure Park Waiver – To be able to participate at the adventure park, every scholar must have one signed. Make sure the student’s name on the waiver matches their name in VCP’s system.
*Please double check to ensure you have completed both forms. I have noticed I have some students who have completed the form and no waiver, or vice versa.
