CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Health, Wellness, Relationships & Adolescence Course Coming in March

Health, Wellness, Relationships & Adolescence (HWRA) curriculum for our middle school scholars is coming soon with our first day on March 16th.  We are pleased to bring this course material back to 5-8th grade scholars this spring through their PE classes. Unlike prior years, these lessons will just take place in PE class.

Please see below for more information about HWRA:

5th and 7th Graders:

  • The content of HWRA lessons is based on guidance we are mandated by the state to teach. We hired a curriculum writer in 2018 who pulled from a variety of sources to design the lessons to ensure we are teaching the correct content.
  • The four lessons are:
    • Adolescent Brain
    • Changes in my Body
    • Two lessons on health relationships
  • Lessons will be taught in PE class during the months of February/March. Like previous years, lessons will be mixed gender in those classes.
  • Course content and materials will be provided to families for review and to allow for any conversations families wish to have with scholars prior to engaging in the lessons.
  • Families have the choice to opt their scholar out of some or all of the lessons through Panda Docs.  There will be a more detailed breakdown of the content of the lesson. If your scholar is opting out, they will complete Nutrition Lessons for a classwork grade for PE using their Chromebooks, or other resources that we provide.

6th and 8th Graders:

  • We are excited to partner with Hope Clinic this year for our HWRA Curriculum for our 6th and 8th graders. We used this program last year for our 8th grade curriculum and we are looking forward to our partnership and the opportunity to have the Hope Clinic teach our 6th graders.
  • Hope Clinic for Women’s suite of Relationship Education programs are based on The Center for Relationship Education’s REAL Essentials suite of curricula and start from a point of knowing each individual’s worth and value and homing in on the participant’s intrinsic motivation for making healthy choices in line with their values and future goals. Hope Clinic’s goal is to empower teens with information and critical thinking skills and set them up for a healthy future and thriving relationships.

Be on the lookout for more information in the form of a PandaDoc document sent out through email. If you have questions, please reach out to our Director of Fine Arts & Enrichment: Mr. Jacob Waid – jwaid@valorcollegiate.org

VALOR FAMILY GROUP: FAMILY ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

26-27 School Calendar

Last Friday, MNPS released their 26-27 school year calendar. If you are curious, you can find their calendar here.

As always, we then take their calendar and draft/revise our own version to ensure we meet the needs of our community and are in compliance with state requirements. We are in the process of doing that and are hoping to finalize and share our calendar in the coming weeks!
