Fire Arms Instruction: Upcoming Morning Meeting
In 2024, the Tennessee General Assembly passed the following legislation, requiring instruction of firearms safety in schools, outlined in Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-1016. We have been working on understanding our requirements here as a public charter school and developing a plan to ensure we are in compliance with these new state requirements. We will share a state provided video with our students to watch and take the opportunity to reintroduce our security team with our students. We will do this at the following dates during Morning Meeting (MSs) and will have a member of the security team there to introduce themselves to students. We are imagining this to take around 10 minutes (7 minutes for the video + 3 minutes to introduce the security team) of the morning meeting. You can find the dates below:
April 14th: 6th and 8th grade morning meeting
April 15th: 5th and 7th grade morning meeting
If you are curious to see more about the state law, you can review the following materials from the state and see the slides we will share with students as well.

If you’d like to discuss any of this more, please reach out to Ms. Leach at sleach@valorcollegiate.org
Autism Acceptance Coin Drive
We will be launching our Autism Acceptance Coin Drive from April 15 through May 7 as part of our broader Autism Acceptance Month efforts. Prides will collect spare change in support of our Harbor classrooms, with all funds going directly toward supporting those programs. This will culminate in our Autism Acceptance Walk on May 8, where we will recognize the Pride that raised the most funds.
If you would like to participate in the walk, please reach out to Ja’Mille Donaldson at jdonaldson@valorcollegiate.org.
