WHOLE-CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Thursday, 2/13: Stand Alone Field Test (SAFT) for English I and English II Students
Students enrolled in English I and English II (almost all 9th and 10th graders) will take a standardized assessment on the morning of 2/13. Importantly, student scores on the assessment will NOT be recorded in our gradebooks and will NOT be part of any academic records that exist related to students’ high school tenure. The state is administering these exams for its own internal research purposes in developing future EOC questions.
The exam will take place during the first 3 blocks of the day on Thursday, 2/13 (F, G, and A blocks). Students will resume a normal schedule after that time. Upper school students will have a completely normal schedule on this day.
Attendance at VCP
In order to ensure that we start Quarter 3 off with a strong, committed start to daily on time attendance, we want to remind you that your student has a minimum of either (or both) 3 unexcused absences and/or 7 unexcused tardies.
If your student finishes the quarter with more unexcused absences or tardies to school, they will be on the Attendance Reset List. That list carries the following loss of privileges:
- Students may not attend any signature experiences
- Student drivers lost their VCP parking pass
- Seniors may not attend off campus lunch
- Students may not attend school-wide celebrations such as dances or pep rallies
- Students may not attend wing ding with their grade level peers
- Students will be able to attend practice, but not be able to compete in athletics
- Students will be able to attend rehearsals and meetings, but not be able to compete or perform in FACE activities
Update on Immigration Changes and Impact on Valor
We know that many of our faculty, students, and families have questions about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and how recent federal changes may impact our school community. We recognize that these uncertainties can bring concerns, and we want you to know that we are listening and working on guidance to support our families.
We are carefully reviewing Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) policies and working closely with our legal team to ensure that our approach aligns with all requirements while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our entire community. MNPS recently shared the following:
“In the absence of an emergency, any law enforcement activity, including immigration enforcement, requires legal authorization. This includes accessing student records or access to students on school property. We do not ask for or document the immigration status of our students. We are committed to ensuring that all such requests are thoroughly reviewed by our legal team.
When parents entrust their children to our schools, they also trust us to protect their privacy, constitutional rights, and overall well-being. If immigration enforcement officials make a request, our legal department will review the matter, and parents will be notified in accordance with the law.”
For more details from MNPS, download and share the Immigration Enforcement FAQs for families: English | Spanish | Arabic
Our goal is to maintain a school environment where every student, staff member, and family feels informed, supported, and valued.
We will share our Valor policy when it is finalized and will provide updates on any new information we receive.
25.26 School Year Calendar
As we’ve shared in prior Principal Updates, we have our base 25.26 school year calendar. We are working on continuing to finalize some internal dates, we anticipate doing that over the coming months. Those dates include things like assessment days, field trips, signature events, etc. and won’t impact the overall days in school vs. out of school. We are excited to be able to share translated versions of the calendars with our families, you can see links to Spanish and Arabic versions below.
We’ll reshare the calendars later in the year once we have the final internal dates solidified!
