Reminder and Resources: 12th Grade Community Service Requirement
This is a reminder that Valor graduates are expected to earn 10 hours of community service prior to graduating; all hours should be completed and submitted no later than 5/19 prior to graduation.
- What counts as community service:
- Community service is time contributed to a nonprofit or public service organization. The community should be benefiting from the work you do!
- Students can also volunteer in their field of interest to gain experience. This means that job shadowing may count toward your community service requirement.
- What does not count . . .
- Tasks in which you are paid for your service. This includes working at your job off the clock.
- Volunteering for an individual (e.g., helping a neighbor with yard work)
- Listing a family member as your supervisor
- Proselytizing (sharing faith)
– Where should I submit my documentation?
- Once the service form has been signed, you may submit your form to Ms. Conway in the Math Hallway Co-lab Room 129. There will be a community service forms tray where you can submit the forms.
· Where can I get additional community service forms?
- Front Office or Math Co-lab Room 129
- 4/25 and 4/26 Senior Service Days: Seniors are not required to attend school on Tuesday, April 25th and Wednesday, April 26th while other grades in TN Ready testing. They should use these days to earn service hours. However, if seniors are supposed to attend AP course review sessions on these days, they should prioritize these sessions and then earn any additional hours.
- Below are possible resources to use to connect to service opportunities:
- TNAchieves website (for Middle Tennessee)
- Hands On Nashville
- Second Harvest Food Bank
- For submitting service hours and documentation to VCP:
- Students / families can submit hours through email – a screenshot or confirmation email from the site where hours were completed will do!
- Students / families can get a hard copy form from VCP (available at the front desk or from PSS teachers) to be filled out by a site supervisor to confirm when and where hours were completed. Please note: If students are using their TN PROMISE aid, they must document all community service here and must meet the state requirements for what counts as community service.
- Students should turn in a hard copy service form OR email a screenshot or confirmation email to their PSS teacher (Allen or Brown).
- For the TN Achieves Virtual Community Service Webinars, please submit the TLA form (PDF Doc) OR a screenshot of the receipt here to check my community service hours log-in information.
- Students should turn in a hard copy service forms to Ms. Conway and bring form to Co-lab, Room 129).
If there are questions related to senior service hours, please email aconway@valorcollegiate.org to address your question or concern.
