CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

MS Schedule Adjustment for 22-23 School Year

At the end of April, we learned from MNPS that our current schedule is out of compliance with state law due to each school day not being 6.5 hours long. This is having a pretty large impact on Valor and several other schools around Nashville that have similar schedules to ours with 4 longer days and an early release day. This has led us to needing to make schedule changes for the 22-23 school year that will affect our dismissal times.

  • Our early release date will be shifting from Fridays to Mondays and students will be released at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. This will allow us to continue to have professional development and an early release day while having the school day be 6.5 hours.
  • On Tuesday-Friday, students will be dismissed at 3:25 p.m. every day.
  • Friday was not an option for the early release day given the high school schedule and their Friday dismissal time.

We will still be offering the same bus transportation and updated times will be sent out this summer for all routes. Boys and Girls Club will also continue to offer after care starting at these new dismissal times until 6:30 p.m. We apologize for sharing this late in the year. We did learn from MNPS in the past couple of weeks and have been working hard to adjust as quickly as possible, but also know a shift like this does have a large impact on many families. We’re sorry that is the case!

If you have questions, please submit them in this Q+A document. Our team will get to them as quickly as we can!

Summer Office Hours

Summer Volunteer Opportunity- 6/21-6/23

Hello Valor Community & Friends,

Valor is hosting some volunteers June 21-23, 2022. We have a lot to do to get our schools ready for the 2022-23 school year. This is a great opportunity for high school students to earn some volunteer hours, and an awesome time for families to give back to the Valor community. We will do things like trash clean up, move furniture, deep cleaning, and many other projects to help make our space more organized and clean for our teachers’ and students’ return. Please take some time to sign up for a day and time slot(s) that would work best for you, so that we can better plan and coordinate the projects for the day.

Thank you in advance!

Valor Operations Team

After you sign-up, you’ll receive more details and information.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact

Ms. Abdulla Role Change

We’re excited to announce that Ms. Jihan Abdulla will be transitioning into a Network Wide Operations Support role effective July 1st, which means she’ll be supporting all three Valor schools next year.  Ms. Abdulla will no longer be at the Flagship Front Desk next school year, but we’re excited that she will bring her positive impact to all three Valor schools.

8TH GRADE VOYAGER FAMILIES – RISING 9TH GRADERS TO VCP DEADLINE APPROACHING!!!

  • Call MNPS 615-259-4636 press option 1 for parent (M-F, 9am – 5:30pm)
  • Tell the representative you need to accept your scholars seat for VALOR FLAGSHIP (VCP & Flagship are under the same charter)
  • Provide scholars name
  • Receive confirmation from MNPS representative

If you have any issues with these steps, please contact Deonte Wroten via text at 615-538-5761 or email dwroten@valorcollegiate.org

TNReady and Grades

We learned this week that we would not receive TNReady or EOC scores to include in Quarter 4 grades for scholars. Therefore, similar to MNPS, they will not be included in scholar grades.

NOTE FROM THE NURSES:

For all rising 7th Grade Families in the 22-23 School Year!

Each year, all incoming 7th grade scholars are required by state law to submit proof of receiving the Tetanus (Tdap) booster vaccine, a medical exemption from a medical provider, or a note from a parent/guardian stating a religious objection to it.

This is a state requirement, and if this documentation is not received 10 school days after the start of the 22-23 school year, then any scholar without documentation on file will not be allowed in school until documentation is received.

There are several different options for getting the form to us:

-email a digital copy of the documentation to health@valorcollegiate.org

-upload a digital copy of the documentation to www.valorenroll.com

-bring a physical copy of the documentation to your school’s front office.

Please note: due to HIPAA and privacy laws, we are generally unable to contact your scholar’s physician directly to obtain this information.

If you have questions or need assistance in locating a facility to get this vaccination, please email us at health@valorcollegiate.org. You can also call the MNPS Health Centers at 615-259-8755 to find a location that offers the Tdap vaccine.

Thank you so much for your cooperation in keeping our community safe and healthy!

-Your Valor School Nurses

For all students with medication in the nurse’s office:

As we approach the end of another school year, we would like to remind parents/guardians to pick up any medications that are stored in the nurse’s office.  All medications that are stored in the office MUST be picked up by a parent/guardian by Friday, May 27th, 2022. Any medications, over the counter or prescription, that are not picked up by this date will be disposed of.

Please note that medications must be picked up at the end of each academic school year. If you would like your scholar to have medication kept in the nurse’s office next year, a new medication administration form must be completed and returned for the 2022-2023 school year. All medications, and completed medication administration forms for the 2022-2023 school year, can be dropped off in the front office by a parent/guardian once the new school year begins.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions at health@valorcollegiate.org. We wish you and your family a fun summer vacation!

Best,

Your Valor School Nurses
