Dear VCP Students and Families,
Our leadership team has been working very hard to secure additional student parking options near to VCP’s campus. We are excited to announce that we are extremely close to finalizing a partnership with community members across the street that will open up an additional 60 student parking spaces in semester 2. While there is still a small chance that this partnership could fall through, we wanted to begin the formal application process for these spots today.
The new student lot is highlighted in yellow in the image below. To orient you, you should see the Valor Flagship building and Compass Training Center in the lower left corner. Students will have to walk (there is a sidewalk) along Nolensville and cross using the crosswalk at the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Bass Ave.
An Important Note About Dismissal: There are two streets on either side of the new student lot called Alice Ave. and Higgins Street. At dismissal, students are not permitted, under any circumstance, to turn directly onto Nolensville Pike from either Alice Ave. or Higgins Street. All students will exit by making a right onto Alice Ave and then returning to Nolensville Pike via Flora Maxwell. The two images below will help provide visual to these instructions. **Please note that this rule is in place out of concern for student safety. Making a turn onto Nolensville Pike directly from Alice or Higgins is extremely dangerous given the blindspots rendered from the curve in the road and gate structure of the church on the other side of Higgins.
The image below shows that cones will be set up at dismissal to prevent students from exiting towards Higgins. An officer will stand on Alice Ave and direct all students to make a right turn.
This next image shows that students will travel from Alice to Taylor and then finally to Flora Maxwell to make their right turn onto Nolensville Pike.
The application for a student parking space is now open. All applications are due by 8am on Friday, January 7th. Students who are already on the waiting list for a parking space will automatically receive a parking pass and do not need to re-apply (if this applies to you, you will receive a confirmation email to your Valor student email address within the next 15 minutes).
Lottery results will be shared Monday, January 10th. The first day that students will be allowed to park in the new lot will be Tuesday, January 18th (the day after MLK Day).
